1. Who We Are

PhaseLens ("we", "our", "the app") is an independent AI-powered stock research tool available at phaselens.ai. It is operated by Mohan Narayanan as a personal project. Questions about this policy can be sent to phaselensai@gmail.com.

2. What We Collect and Why

Account information
When you sign up with email/password or Google, Firebase (by Google) collects your email address and, for Google sign-in, your display name and profile picture. We receive your email address and name from Firebase and store them in our database to identify your session.

Usage events
We log usage events — page loads, views, tickers you analyze, holdings you add, and watchlist additions. These are linked to a visitor ID stored in your browser and, when you are signed in, to your email address. This data is identified, not anonymous, and we say so plainly. We use this data solely to understand how the app is used and improve it.

Portfolio data
Your portfolio quantities, cost basis, and watchlist are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and are never transmitted to or stored on our servers; because we never possess them, we cannot access, disclose, or produce them, to anyone. Note the one nuance: as described under Usage events above, the ticker symbol of a stock you analyze or add is logged as an event; the quantities and prices you enter are not. If server-side portfolio sync is introduced in the future, this policy will be updated before it takes effect.

No payment data
PhaseLens does not collect credit card numbers or any payment information. There is no paid tier at this time.

3. Third-Party Services

Firebase / Google — handles authentication (sign-in). Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Financial Modeling Prep (FMP) — provides market and fundamental data. The ticker symbols you analyze are sent to our backend, which requests the corresponding data from FMP; your identity is not shared with FMP. Subject to FMP's Privacy Policy.
Render — hosts our backend API. Processes request logs in the ordinary course of hosting. Subject to Render's Privacy Policy.
Netlify — hosts the frontend. Subject to Netlify's Privacy Policy.
Yahoo Finance (via yfinance) — provides live stock market data. No personal data is shared with Yahoo Finance.
Groq — optional AI analysis text generation. The stock ticker and public financial metrics (no personal data) are sent to Groq's API. Subject to Groq's Privacy Policy.
Supabase — optional database hosting. If configured, usage events and account records are stored on Supabase servers. Subject to Supabase's Privacy Policy.

4. How We Use Your Data

To identify your session and personalize your experience

To improve the app based on which features and tickers are most used
We do not sell your data to any third party
We do not use your data for advertising
We do not share your data with anyone except the services listed in Section 3 for the purpose of operating the app

5. Data Retention

Usage events and account records are retained for as long as the app is operational. Portfolio and watchlist data exists only in your browser and is never transmitted to us. If you want your account and event data deleted, email phaselensai@gmail.com and we will delete it within 30 days.

6. Your Rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing phaselensai@gmail.com. You can also delete your Firebase account directly through Firebase's account management. Signing out of the app stops new events from being linked to your email.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

We do not use cookies. We use localStorage in your browser to store: your portfolio and watchlist data, a random visitor ID (pl_vid), your signed-in email (pl_email), and admin dashboard settings. None of this is transmitted to third parties. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for phaselens.ai.

8. Security

Authentication is handled entirely by Firebase, which uses industry-standard security practices. Our backend verifies Firebase ID tokens cryptographically before accepting any authenticated request. No passwords are stored by PhaseLens — Firebase handles all credential management.

9. Legal Disclosures

We may disclose information we hold (which, by design, does not include your portfolio quantities or cost basis) if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process; to enforce our Terms; to detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, or security issues; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of PhaseLens, our users, or the public.

We honor verified access, correction, and deletion requests as required by applicable law, including applicable U.S. state privacy laws.

10. Business Transfers

If PhaseLens is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information we hold may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy's protections; material changes will be reflected in an updated policy.

11. Where Processing Happens

PhaseLens is operated from the United States and intended for users in the United States. By using the Service you consent to processing and storage of your information in the U.S. The Service is not directed to residents of the EEA, UK, or other jurisdictions with materially different data-protection regimes.

12. Children's Privacy

PhaseLens is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at the email above and we will delete it promptly.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be noted by updating the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
